Michele Marie Ferrier, born in Oakland, California in 1946 to Anne (nee Giambruno) and George Ferrier, passed away this week at her home in San Francisco. Michele earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of California at Berkeley and previously attended the University of San Francisco, Oakland High School, McChesney Jr. High and Bella Vista Elementary School. She enjoyed activities with her Girl Scout troop, dancing, painting, knitting, reading, writing and bringing beauty and order to everything she did. Michele had a varied life working as a high school teacher at Castlemont High School in Oakland, a dancer of flamenco, and for over 30 years as a pharmaceutical representative. She was working on a series of children's books at the time of her death.
Michele helped to found "The Royal Society of Literary Fellowship," a convivial book club in San Francisco; quietly gave support to those she saw in need, and worked in many ways to bring joy to her neighbors, friends and family. She was forever creating beauty and whimsy and loved to cook and host parties, always with a theme and a flair. She served as a second mother to her nephews, creating surprises for them on special occasions and attending all school plays and ceremonies.
She is survived by her brother George Ferrier, sister Georganne Ferrier and Steven Weinberg (brother-in- law), nephews Michael and Robert Weinberg and their wives Jen Sedell and Stella Kim, and by her beloved dog Oscar. Her joyful spirit will be missed by her many family members and friends.
Michele requested donations to First Place for Youth, 426 17th Street, Oakland, CA 94612 info@firstplaceforyouth.org, an organization supporting youth aging out of foster care; or to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund www.ocrf.org.
