Dave Roberts David Stevens Roberts, 84, died on Feb. 2.

Born on May 6, 1919, he graduated from Oakland High School and UC Berkeley. He was the president of his college fraternity, Phi Kappa Sigma. He took a special management course at Cornell University.

He worked for Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco, and in 1941 was assigned to the Army Reception Center at the Presidio in Monterey. He served in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was discharged as a captain with 41/2 years of service and 181/2 years in the Army reserve. He retired as a lieutenant colonel.

He spent 33 years in management with Moore Business Forms, and then worked for H&R block a few months each year for 16 years.

He and his wife Verna, who lived in Oakland for 20 years and Hiller Highlands for 20 years, traveled all over the world, including Maui where they owned a condo. They moved to Rossmoor in 1990.

He had a 50-year membership in Masonry and was a member of Rotary. One of his greatest accomplishments was climbing some of the world's greatest mountains, including Half Dome, Lassen, Shasta and Fuji.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Verna Roberts; daughters, JoAnne Saysette and Barbara Denson; and four grandchildren.

His family held a memorial service.
