GIRL STUDENT DIES AS RESULT OF BURNS
Suffered Fatal Injury While Using Alcohol Iron
OAKLAND, June 29.- Miss Edith Hodkins, 19 years old, a student of the Oakland high school, died this morning from burns she suffered last Monday, when an alcohol iron exploded, throwing the burning liquid over her clothes and setting the garments afire. While the accident was deemed serious at that time it was thought the girl would recover. She became unconscious last night and expired early this forenoon. Miss Hodkins was the daughter of Louis A. Hodkins, 1041 Adeline street, vice president of the M. W. Hodkins glove company. She was injured at the home of her uncle, M. W. Hodkins, president of the concern, at 1099 Adeline street. Miss Hodkins was alone in the room when the accident occurred. With her clothing ablaze she ran through the house to the back yard. Her relatives, hearing her screams, ran to her aid and with blankets put out the flames.
